New 2021 CPT Code 99072

The AMA announced on 09/08/20 the following CPT code would be added to the 2021 code set.

Code 99072 is effective immediately and is classified as a category 1 code and can be found under the Services, Procedures and Reports category.

Code Description:

99072: Additional supplies, materials and clinical staff time over and above those usually included in an office visit or other non-facility service(s), when performed during a Public Health Emergency as defined by law, due to respiratory-transmitted infectious disease.

ICD-10-CM 2021 Codes

New ICD-10-CM codes took effect 10/01/20. Not sure what the new codes are? The PECAA Billing & Coding team has you covered!

These changes will immediately impact Medicare. Other health insurance plans, however, may hold off until January 1, 2021 to implement.

The new codes affecting eye care focus on corneal dystrophy and corneal transplant complications. Taking single codes and increasing specificity by now including laterality. You will also find a new chapter that has been added to the tabular list this year. The new COVID-19 code that was released in April is now housed in Chapter 22, Codes for Special Purposes.
