PECAA Gives… Leaving a positive, lasting impact on the communities where we come together.

Thank you to everyone who generously donated to PECAA Gives to support our 2018 beneficiary, Beads of Courage! We are so proud that the PECAA Community joined together to raise funds for this incredible organization.
During the meeting, attendees heard from Beads of Courage Founder Jean Gribbon along with a BOC member who had lost her daughter to cancer in June of 2017. General session attendees got to learn first-hand the impact that BOC has on the local Tucson community.
With a goal of raising $15,000, the PECAA community blew that number out of the park by helping to raise $21,397 for the program! The money raised through PECAA Gives will go towards providing hospitalized children with arts-in-medicine programs, help offer support for family members of hospitalized children, and provide artist-made glass beads to parents coping with the loss of their child.
2018 PECAA Gives Beneficiary
A 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, Beads of Courage® is committed to promoting the emotional well-being and strengthening the resilience of children coping with serious illness.
The Beads of Courage® Program supports the following:
- Cancer and Blood Disorders
- Cardiac Conditions
- Burn injuries
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Chronic Illness
- Adult Oncology (pilot)
Every bead tells a story of Strength, Honor and Hope
Through the program, children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that they receive to honor and acknowledge each step of their treatment journey. Beads are given according to a program specific bead guide. For milestones in their treatment journey, they receive handmade one-of-a-kind glass beads.
Ongoing evaluation of the Beads of Courage® program indicates that the program helps to decrease illness related distress, increase the use of positive coping strategies, helps members find meaning in illness, and restore sense of self in those coping with serious illness.
